UPDATE: I think I've gotten everything mostly squared away. There's no doubt still a number of things that need ironing out, but otherwise I think I've reached a point where the only way to know if it's A-OK is to open it up for players :P I've put the Test Server back online for the meantime, so feel free to congregate there and misbehave. (TNT is even enabled there, but please keep it to the World, End or Nether lol [not that there's anything important on there either way])
Hey all, just wanting to let you know that we've worked out as many major bugs as we can and while it's not completely perfect yet, the server would be waiting forever if I were to try to get it 100% the way 1.8 is. As such, we'll be making the move and so tommorrow (Tues, Oct 10th, for everyone except Australia), I'll be taking the main server offline to begin the process... The bulk of this is going to be the fact that there will be a backup as well, and despite being a small community like we are, at over 175GB, I suspect we're probably one of the largest in terms of map sizes! Granted, 50GB of that is our block logging database, but 70GB is the main World on its own! :P
That being said, there are a few things that will change, as mentioned in the post below. One thing that wasn't metnioned is that Whips will unfortunately not operate 100% the way they had in 1.8. There are a combination of things that are outside of my control and the various plugins to counter the 1.9+ changes have not quite been able to sort out our Whips. As for what we'll do about those weapons, I'm not sure at the moment. They may become Bows, they may not change any. The primary issue though is that they don't deal damage on contact, you have to reel the bobber back in for that to trigger. The other issue is that they can't cast as far, or as fast. Lastly, they won't do Knockback, which is a choice of mine, because while we can easily address that, it comes with a negative side-effect of interacting with our NPCs. Sadly, a number of you like to move them around by any means you can find, so this is disable because of that. Sorry, not sorry :P
In addition to that, initially there will be issue with disguises, but I'll work out those permission problems once the update is made live. There will also be the issue of no more Pegasus, sadly, and so Elytra will be the replacement. They will carry with a bonus of having the ability to have a rocket booster and let you continue to fly that way. Hopefully the fuel system is something I can work out, so fingers crossed :) Either way, those who have donated for the Pegasus upgrades will have their permissions replaced with the Boostable Elytra. As for how we'll get Elytra into your hands, we'll sort something out. Of course the End will get reset (but not the Nether), which will be fun to explore :D Finally is the Texture Pack. I have not had time to dive into what is needed ot sort it out for 1.11.2 yet. I may throw a replacement up just for the time being that lacks 3D models, we shall see. In time we'll finally be able to allow vanilla players to see all the things we had envisioned in 1.7.10 with special textures, etc! I'm excited to be able to finally bring those things to you!
That being said, fingers crossed for a smooth transition!
Plan for the PJ server going offline at Midnight EST tonight, which is in just about 6hrs from now.
We will also plan for worst-cast, so expect the server to come back on line FRIDAY Oct 13 at Noon EST (aka Sat for Aussies!).
However, it could easily come back much sooner, I just don't want to get anyone's hopes up and then begin pestering us "When will it be online? Why isn't it online yet? Is something wrong?" ;) ALSO... lets not go crazy if I Whitelist it. That just means I'm getting closer, but am making sure everything's working properly.
Thanks for your understanding and patience!
